Gabrielle’s Poetry
I Understand
People don’t understand me.
They can’t imagine what I’ve been through.
I try to tell them.
They get it,
but they can’t experience my agony.
Life changes,
for better or worse.
I have been dealt a difficult hand.
I lost friends.
I take medication.
I have anxiety.
I have been in the hospital
I just don’t see how I can live
if people won’t come to my rescue
and be my friend.
Heavy Heart
It hurts to think about your beliefs.
Things will never be the same again.
I will go with you,
through the depths of Hell.
I will go with you,
through the pain and torture of all eternity.
I will endure the pain
because we are friends.
My soul burns for you.
I will risk my salvation,
to be with you in death.
Paradise
The waterfall is ocean blue
with a shiny red-purple sheen.
The ground is devilish green.
Birds are background singers
to the crashing bass of
the water falling.
The air is still and warm.
Hot sun beating down on me
is a nice contrast to the
cold, clear water at my feet.
The sounds around me are
relaxing and peaceful.
I am thankful and sleepy.
My Hawaiian paradise.
Saint Campbell
Carla is close to my heart.
She died on February 12, 2022.
She had a lot of cancers.
If there was a way
that I could talk to her,
this is what I would say.
“Carla, I love you so much.
My heart breaks
because you are gone.
You and Jeff
are my favorite people.
Please be with me forever.”
God Fearing
My cousin is a patient
at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.
She has leukemia
leaving her feeling cranky.
Her loving family prays for her.
God is beside her,
smiling down
through her suffering.
He knows that her devotion
will grow stronger.
Good Things
My life is beautiful because of my mom,
who takes me everywhere and
keeps me safe.
My life is enriching because of Noorthoek.
I love the people that I meet,
studying about different cultures,
trying exotic foods..
Just Wondering
During the Holocaust,
it was either kill
or be killed.
In my past life,
I was in charge
of burying the living.
No one could save them.
I wonder where God was
while they suffered?
Where was He when
I had my car accident?
My Superpower
I am guided by my insight
and vision.
Dreams of the future.
All worries are calmed
by the bagpipe’s ancient tones.
Soothing me with reassurance.
Everything will be okay.
Fear
I am in pain.
I feel as if I am in danger of being hurt.
I am scared.
It feels uncomfortable.
I yell at the top of my lungs.
I push away very quickly.
They didn’t get it.
I still feel in danger of dying.
I feel trapped in this body,
even more afraid.
My Spirit
I worship a Norse goddess
connected to Saturn
by sound.
Bagpipes captivate me,
their melodious drones
meander into the very
depths of my soul.
Balancing my mind,
calming my body.
Freeing my spirit
to talk to me.
